Review? Review!

'Allo loverlies!

I went to review yesterday, but I was dragged to Rampworx, and then I got back at 10pm, so I watched Criminal Minds, watched the end of a comedy show my mum used to watch (Black Books or something, it was really good), and then went up to bed. I would've blogged earlier today, but Danica got me hooked on Dorm Life, so I spent the day watching both season's of that, and all of the bonus videos. More on that in my BEDFAY blog on Tuesday, though.

So! On Wednesday, I went to see Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Now, this film was good, I mean, the cave scene with Dumbledore's fire was amazing, but I can't help feeling they've messed Deathly Hallows up a lot.
For example;

-Burning down The Burrow; I didn't feel this did anything for the plot. I've read the argument that it was to show how big this war is, but for anyone who hasn't read the book, it doesn't make any sense, because it was just...well, pointless. Nothing happened in the film because of it. Plus, most of the beginning of DH is set in The Burrow, so, maybe they could rebuild it by magic, but then that just makes it seem even stupider.

-Cutting out the Ministry plotline; I realise that this doesn't seem that big a deal, but, still, it was irritating.

-Tonks and Lupin were together for the whole film; I guess this was because they were planning on cutting out the battle at the end, so Bill didn't get injured, so Fleur doesn't get to start the whole "he's still going to love me" thing, so Tonks can't get mad at Lupin and tell him that "she doesn't care", but they need to be together for Teddy's existence, but I mean, Tonk's hair should've been pink if they were going to do that to us.

-No Bill and Fleur?; The wedding at the beginning of DH will be a bit of a surprise now, and there'll be no reason for Harry, Ron and Hermione to stick around if they don't include this, but then it'll be a shock when they go to Shell Cottage, which needs to be included because it's where Dobby is buried, and fans will (probably) be mad if they cut this out or move it, so it was just silly.

-Cutting out the battle at the end!; I know everyone is annoyed about this, so I won't even bother writing out why it made me mad, because you already know.

-Just something me and my friend, Alex, agreed on; the actor playing Slughorn failed at playing Slughorn. Don't know whether you guys agree, but that's what we think.

-Harry and Ginny didn't actually get together; THIS IS JUST BAD, OKAY?

-Harry was just standing there, free to move about, but not stopping Draco?; Come on, let's not make the poor lad look even more pathetic.

-SNAPE USED HIS OWN WAND; Erm, HELLO?!

-Harry didn't have a chance to see the diadem; This was crucial!

-NOTHING was said about possible horcruxes; DO THEY THINK VOLDEMORT WILL JUST DESTROY THEM HIMSELF, OR STAND THERE GIVING OUT LEAFLETS ABOUT THE VARIOUS HORCRUXES AND WHERE TO FIND THEM?!

Something I did, really, really like, was Tom Felton's acting. Best he's been in a HP film, no doubt.

I think there's more, but again, I'm a little tired, and I was looking through a conversation Alex and I had about it, and now we're just talking about monocles (ha, sounds like we're talking now, but we're not, even though he should be here sending me songs, dammit!), so I think I'll leave it there.

If you agree or disagree with any of this, I'd love to hear, so leave a comment or summit, darlings.

-Caitlin

  1. The first couple of times I saw it, I was majorly annoyed and confused by the attack on the Burrow - why bother with it? It's meant to happen in the next book. But then me and my friend talked about it before we saw it a third time and came to the conclusion that this way they can cut the wedding altogether, considering it's never been mentioned before, and the Burrow still gets burned down. That is the only logical explanation we can come up with, but I'm still not happy.

To be honest, I was quite glad that there wasn't any more Ginny/Harry in this film because it seemed awkward and weird, whereas in the book it was cute. And Ginny in the Room of Requirement made me skin crawl.

The last point about the Horcruxes I agree with entirely...that was the biggest problem I had with the film. Harry does not have a CLUE what he's looking for and where they might be.

Other than that, and a few other little niggles that I've managed to look past so I won't get too annoyed, I quite liked the film.

    Great review
